We did CIO and it worked!

I honestly did not think that CIO would work for us (moreso me) and tonight is day 2 and she fell asleep in less than 2 mins. after just one check in. I can't believe it worked tonight so fast and I will not be surprised if there is not as much success tomorrow night but I am amazed.

I have one twin who sleeps so well. She is out like a light at 7:30 p.m. and stays asleep until 6:30 or 7:00 a.m. The other twin is the complete opposite. She always wants to be held and was the one who could be completely sleeping sound and the second her head touched the crib mattress she would be awake. Well, last night we tried our first night of CIO and after two check-ins after 10 minutes and 15 mins. of crying (ripped my heart out but she was basically crying while her eyes were closed so I know she was so tired) she cried for about 5 more minutes after the last check-in and then was asleep for three hours.

Fast forward to tonight. I put her down and after a little crying/fussing for about 10 mins. I went in, rubbed her head and left again. She cried for about 1 minute and has now been sleeping for two hours! Then I ask myself a question, "Why the heck am I up?" I have all three girls sleeping and I am typing this. I just had to write this down as I am not so sure I am believe it yet.

I am going to bed now and hope everyone stays asleep for at least the next three hours or so LOL : )

That is so great!! We are in the same situation as you (one sleeps awesome, one not so much). Do you have them in the same bedroom? Just curious - I know everyone says the good sleeper will sleep right through, but it's still so hard to imagine, especially if the crying lasts for any substantial length of time.

Yes, we have them in the same bedroom but the first night we kept Jamie, the good sleeper, downstairs with us while Kendall CIO and then once she was asleep we put Jamie in her crib (separate cribs). Last night Jamie was in her crib first as we wanted to see if she would wake up and she didn't. She slept right through it and didn't even stir (we watched her on the video monitor). I think that even though her sister was crying she is used to hearing her near.

So Kendall, the not so good sleeper, slept until 4:00 a.m. this morning in her crib. She only woke up to eat a few ounces and then back to sleep. Yea!!!

I am a little frustrated with TS right now as I thought I was signed in from the main page but apparently I was not so my post that I was writing got wiped out. I guess maybe that was a sign because it was a small novel.

An update on my girls... I think I had the sweetest moment with my little baby Kendall. She was so alert tonight I thought I was going to have a repeat of Saturday night where she didn't, to my anyway, get tired until around 10:30 p.m. I have her the rest of her bottle (about 2 oz.) and she started getting really heavy eyed so I brought her upstairs thinking I would need to rock her a bit and by the time I got upstairs, her eyes were closed. I put her in her crib and she opened her eyes a bit and gave me a little smile and closed her eyes. I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!! That was at 8:00 p.m. and it is now 9:00 and not a peep out of her!

I am not endorsing the CIO method for anyone because I know it may not work for you and/or your babies. My girls never had reflux or what I like to call "volcano" spit ups like my toddler and they also haven't had colic so I think for us, it was just a matter of time.

Another update and think this will be more realistic for all...

Kendall went to bed for a couple of nights without crying but still got up around 3:00 a.m. for a bottle and then on the third night after our "successful" CIO night, it was a 180. She became hysterical when she would wake up after about 30 minutes of sleeping. I wasn't really sure of what to do when that happened but what we ended up doing was give her a pacifier, which is weird that she never really liked it until this time, and then she was completely fine. Don't get it. Has anyone experienced this?

I just wanted to post that it wasn't as easy as it was and to get any advice anyone may have.

We had several set backs as well. I did CIO at 7 months and cut all feedings. Both boys liked the paci before that but it became necessary after CIO. Things were better but not always "perfect" or predictable. Hang in there! At least you are getting more sleep than before!

Setbacks are normal. Anything can disturb their sleep patterns at this age (teething, milestones, growth spurts, etc). My two are almost 3 and there are still nights when they are up for no apparent reason. But it's great that you are starting to get some easier nights & that CIO has helped!
