The girls figured out how to open doors yesterday. I went to Target to get some safety locks for the doors and was told they "must have discontinued all the safety items." Huh? Anyway, they had nothing. I went to Menards and they didn't have anything that would work on our lever style handles. I guess I'll have to order something online. Does anyone have a lock for this kind of door that they love?

I got mine at Walmart for about $5 each. They are by Safety 1st and I was able to install all 6 of them by myself. You will have to take off the door handle to install them but once you do the first one, the rest are a breeze.

You can also get them at BRU or Toys R Us.

Thanks. I'll try Walmart. I know the baby safety area at ours is pretty small though. We has a finger-pinching incident yesterday because they were playing with the door. :(

Also, I don't know if you have an IKEA in your area but I was there the other day and in the kids section they have a ton of baby safety items and they had a door stop that you can actually put on the molding but the top of the door frame that keeps the door from closing completely so they can get their fingers stuck, I 'm doing a horrible job describing it but it looked perfect for what you are talking about-just an idea.

We bought ours from One Step Ahead, but I just checked and they are no longer selling the same model that we purchased. They are selling a different one that actually looks easier to install. Here is the link:

I love the look of that one, but it seems like it uses adhesive to attach directly to the door. We have really nice oak doors and my DH would have a fit if I stuck something like that to it. :(

They make these foam "C" shaped things that slip/grip on the door itself to keep fingers from getting slammed. They can still play with the doors but can't smash their fingers. We use those for doors that we want to stay open.

If you are just wanting to prevent them from closing the door on their fingers, I use these:

    Finger Pinch Guard

I also got them at Walmart but they no longer carry them. I know BRU has sells them. They were only $2.50.

Now if you want to keep them out of a room, you'll need to buy the locks.

We replaced all of our levers with new door knobs because it got so obnoxious around our house. Good luck!!

our babyproofer recommended locks that go on the top of the door, so the girls can't reach them. i forgot what they are called (slip lock, or slide lock, something like that!). we have some and they are MUCH better! you don't have to remove the lock and you don't have to worry about them figuring it out. another thing you can use is one of those hook things that goes through a hole (can't recall what it's called, either. just too tired, lol:)). but the main piont is that he doesn't feel lever locks really work well.
