    Hi everyone.
My name's Melissa, I'm a 36 year old mother of almost-five-year-old twins who was very happy being the mother of two. I'm now almost 12 weeks pregnant with a surprise baby and still kind of struggling with the idea of having another baby. But as the first trimester comes to an end, it's time to break free of denial and come clean. I'm pregnant. There I said it.

Edited because on top of everything else, I'm a terrible speller.

I can kind of understand how you are feeling, I really wanted another baby, but my DH definitely did not. When I found out I was expecting I was in shock and not exactly thrilled at first. Now that I'm in my second trimester I'm beyond excited, I cannot wait to have a little baby around again! Congratulations! :)

Congrats Melissa! I found the Pregnant After Twins forum to be a huge support for my last pregnancy. Are your girls excited? They will be such big helps!

Actually we haven't told them yet. I had two early miscarriages before them so at first we were nervous about that. SIL has a two month old and we have been saying to them, Wouldn't you like to have a baby like your aunt does? And they say NO! I even asked one why once and she said she already has to share me with her sister. But they have taken a renewed interest in taking care of their baby dolls since their new cousin was born.

Congrats, Melissa! I'm sure it has been quite a shock, but I bet the girls will just be insane over their new brother or sister when the time comes. Our oldest is 5 and is such an awesome big brother to our younger boys! :)

Hi Meli. You are making your way in here right as I am on my way out. Just a million hugs to you!

I know that as time ticks on, you will all become accustomed to the new addition, and none of you will be able to imagine life without him or her.

And I'll be in here a lot to check on you!

If it makes you feel any better my 10 year old has always said she definitely did not want me to have another baby so I was very nervous to tell her. She ended up finding out early on when she saw my prenatal vitamins, I was shocked by her reaction because I expected her to be pretty upset, but she was happy and excited. She has become very protective of me and helpful. I'd imagine that your girls are going to be very excited about your new addition and probably very eager to help.

I know a bit how you are feeling. We DID want a fifth, but this was a surprise as far as the timing... and it really took me a bit to adjust to it. It still doesn't feel real to me, and I definitely don't feel bonded to the notion yet. I mean, by this time with my other pregnancies I was already making name lists, and right now I just have no motivation to do that. I think we'll wait to look at names until we find the gender out, and then hopefully I'll feel a bit more connected to this one. I feel a little guilty, but right now I just feel so indifferent. But I figure that's better than feeling upset about it, and I'm greatful that the pregnancy has been so smooth sailing thus far that I've been able to mostly ignore it! LOL.

I had a dream the other night that it was twins again after all (even though I've had two u/s showing only one). I was in labor and the first was born and it was a girl, there was some complication so they didn't deliver the second one and were going to see if that baby could keep cooking for a few more days. During that time I kept demanding that they do an ultrasound to see if the baby was a boy because I'd agreed to have another as long as it was a boy!

BTW which week is ultimal for telling the sex in an ultrasound?

We actually already have names left over from last time. If we had had b/g twins they were going to be Drexel Daniel and Cora Gabriela. Drexel being my maternal grandpa and Daniel DH's maternal grandfather, Cora was my greatgrandma who I knew (Drex's mother) and Gabriel was the name of MIL's twin brother who died in infancy. We've already used Gabriela, so now I'm assuming our girl name would be Cora Daniela

Hey Melissa, Congratulations!! When life turns out different than our plan for ourselves it can be hard to accept at first. I'm sure in no time all four of you wil love that little one so much and it will seem like he/she was meant to be.

I bet when the cousin is a just little older and more interactive with them they will think having a baby around will be more fun and exciting than they do now. It's great they will have a preview of what "their" baby will be doing during each phase.

Congratulations! I can kind of relate. My twins are 8 months old and I'm 6 weeks pregnant with a total surprise (we thought we couldn't get pregnant on our own...we did IVF to get the twins!). I'm slowly getting used to the idea and while it scares the crap out of me sometimes I can't wait to meet this little one growing inside me. :) When it's good and full term anyway. ;) Congrats to you!
