spencer has slept almost all day and won't take his bottle. He usually will eat 2 1/2 to 3oz a day, but today he is only eating 1 to 2 oz. Could this be a growth spurt??

The sleeping all day wouldn't bother me too much at his age, they sleep tons those first few weeks. But he should be taking his bottles. If his formula intake has dropped by half, I would check with your ped.

Yes, you can check with your ped to make sure he's okay. Newborns sleep a lot at the beginning.

Our DD was a sleepy eater. Our twins were in the NICU for 3 weeks and the NICU nurses taught us a few tricks....1-Take her blankets off and unsnap her shirt to let cool air in. When she was warm and snuggled in her blankets, she just wanted to keep sleeping. 2-Gently rub on her chest and call her name. 3-Use a cool, slightly damp washcloth on her face to wake her up.
She eventually outgrew her sleepiness, I think when she was about a month or 6 weeks old.

Gabrielle did the same thing. Sometimes we had to be down right obnoxious to wake he to get her to eat. Stroking her cheek helped also. She still would rather sleep than eat at this point and she is just over 2 months.

Mine slept from feeding to feeding at that age. Pure bliss. However, I would wake them to eat if need be. You can strip them down to a diaper, tickle their face, etc to stimulate them to eat. We did many a feedings with them all the way down to the diaper. GL!

Well he decided to wake up last night and eat all his bottle and was actually awake most of the night!

Mine were super sleepy at that age, too .. we had to use cool washcloths, take off blankies, etc etc to get them to eat. It was rough but they did it. :)
