so they did the car seat test last night and one of my sons passed with flying colors while the other failed. they said they would call the doctor and probably retest again today. i just don't understand why one would have failed, they are nearly the same weights and lengths.

we are all still at the hospital recovering and growing but where anxious to maybe go home today.

has anyone had any experience with this and if so what was the outcome?

    thanks!

When it came time for one of my boys to come home, he failed the first time as well. The dr. redid the test the next day and the baby passed. Hopefully the same thing happens for you.

Lia failed hers the first time, too. She didn't retake it for a little while longer, but only because we were in no real hurry for her to pass (very long NICU stay). They told me she failed in the last 8 minutes of the hour! She ended up passing when she retook it. GL and I really hope you get to come home with your boys very soon (like when YOU go home ;) )

Our tests were done in the NICU and only had to be as long as the ride home (20mins for us). They did okay, but Jake had an apnea/brady at the 25 min mark. They passed him because we still had at least another week before they were going to come home anyway. I'm sure he will do great on his retest!

It's a good thing they do those tests. The last thing you'd want is something to happen on the way home. I'm sure it will all work out.

I guess you cannot predict who will pass the test.

Mine passed the morning after they were born ( we thought they were going home w/ me so we tested them 12 hrs after birth), they passed like champs! (Ours was one hr as well.)

of course, then they determined they needed to stay to regulate body temps so it didn't matter but i sometimes think about that. you just can't predict.

gl it will all work out.

How are you doing with your recoverY?

Mine were done in the NICU and both passed but if one did and the other didn't, I would just chalk it up to them being 2 totally different babies regardless of the fact that they were so close in weight. :pardon:

I hope that all goes well for your children......they do the tests just to be safe, and make sure that the babies are safe.

With that being said, none of my 8 children were ever car seat tested (and 3 of them were born at 36 weeks)......I wonder if it is a regional thing, or a case by case basis.......hhhhhhhmmmmmmm.

Congrats to you and your hubby on your brand new babies. What beautiful names. I just wanted to let you know that the same thing happened to us. My little Logan failed the test and they would not let him leave the hospital until he was over 5lbs. We got him over the 5lbs on day 6 but the hospital but he still didnt pass the test but they did let us borrow a flat bed car seat because he didnt pass the last 5 minutes of the exam. They told us to come back in 2 weeks and try again. The seat was a pain in the butt but I was glad for safety reasons that they do the test and they lent us a car seat. You may want to ask the hospital if they do that. Hopefully they will. Good luck and please keep us posted.
    Sincerely,
    Patty

Yes, this happened to us too the day Logan was suppose to come home. He had a brady about 10 mins into it.
We had to wait until the next day to try it again and he finally passed.
    Good Luck!
