So, here's a really odd one...or maybe not so odd. Since about 13 weeks I have had a pain around my labia but didn't know what it was. I remembered a friend had told me she had varicose veins on the outside of her vagina when she was pregnant. I was having so much pain that I decided to check things out. I have a huge varicose vein about two inches long running along the labia on the left side. That side is totally swollen and is really painful after I've been on my feet for only about 30-45 minutes. At night and when I first stand up in the morning it's the worst. I never had any issue like this with my first pregnancy.

Has anyone else experienced this and had any treatment or relief from the pain?

    THANKS!

I can't offer any treatment or relief for you, but make sure you mention them to your dr. and have him/her check them out. I have them this time too and they are disgusting! But my dr. told me she's glad I'm having a c-section because they can actually rupture and rip during a vaginal birth; so you want to make sure your dr. is aware of them. Good luck finding some relief.

I have the awful problem down there too - it's soooooo disgusting. And huge. Yuck, yuck, yuck. I've noticed that it completely goes away when I'm in the pool though. Wish I could spend 24/7 in the pool ...

Really?! That's so interesting. Every time I take my son to the pool I avoid going into the "big pool" but will have to try it. Yes, it's really, really gross...and so darn painful!!!
    Thanks!

I feel your pain and noticed a really big one on my left side around 18 weeks or so and its painful! The more you're laying down, the better since its so high up, but also putting ice down there can offer a little bit of relief. Wish i had a cure all for you during pregnancy but it should go away when the babies arrive.

Getting into a swimming pool or cool bath will help. Sitz baths might help, too. You also might get some relief by getting onto all fours and putting your tush in the air. It's a ridiculous pose, but it helps take the pressure of the babies off your pelvis and lets the blood flow more easily. Ice can help too.

    Good luck!

I think you ladies just helped me figure out what was wrong down there. I have sharp pains shooting down there everyonce in awhile. I will have to ask my doctor to look for me when I am there in the morning!

A V-2 Supporter will be your best friend by the end of your pregnancy! If I was vertical, I had to have mine on. There was just so much pressure! Mine spread to my legs and I had to wear compression hose every day too. Thankfully they've gotten so much better since in delivered. They are almost completely gone now.

I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this!

I went for my 34 week visit yesterday and was checked down there for the first time by a NP (before my OB came in). She commented on how large the vein is ... and said that it's a good thing I'm not delivering vaginally. I wish I had thought to ask her why so I could pass it along on the board - I guess maybe it could rupture as a PP stated?

I am sooooo sick of that stupid vein.
