Is it okay that I'm using medium flow bottles for my newborns?

I finally found bottles that work for my son and that he doesn't have trouble with. But then I realized when I went to go buy nipples for them today that they are for 4 + months because they are medium flow. They've been doing really well with them... they don't choke or anything. Is it bad that I'm using them? They drink the bottle down in about 10 minutes... (3 oz.).. is that too fast? I didn't really use bottles with my daughter... I stricly breastfed.. so I'm kind of new at this.

These are Gerber's plastic bottles with the larger nipple... the newborn ones they make the nipple way too small so that's why I got the bigger nipples.

 

If they will drink from them without getting choked or spitting up too much, then I would think they are fine!

Mine have used medium flow nipples after we determined they wouldn't choke...the NICU said they were working too hard with the slow flow nipples; if you aren't breastfeeding and they are doing fine... i'd say it's ok...

 

Yeah, as long as you are not breastfeeding and they are not choking. I think it's fine.

And I'm jealous <_< My babes just now are using the faster flow ones, it was taking 25 mins to finish a bottle with the slow flow but they choked horribly on the faster one! :lol:

 

One of mine takes medium and the other takes fast! Neither choke or spit up a whole lot...

One of our boys just got put on level 2 nipples (3 months+) because he was having to work too hard on the slow flow nipples from Dr.Browns and was not gaining any weight. I think it is fine.
