I have 6 week old boys that were born at 36 weeks. Since they were only a little premature, I keep expecting them to meet milestones on the normal schedule. I keep waiting to see them smile, like really smile but nothing yet. I'm sure I'm just being anxious but Oh I want to see their smiles so badly.

Mine didn't smile until about 13 weeks. I t feels like you wait forever for it, and it's so worth the wait. It makes lack of sleep much easier to deal with when you are greeted with smiling babies. I bet it will happen really soon.

Leslie, I definately think that every baby is different, no matter what week they are born. :good: My two were 39 weekers and my ds did start smiling at 5 weeks but my dd was much later. She didn't do a real smile until like 12 weeks. :faint: And to get her to smile made me work alot. It's hard waiting because their smiles will brighten your day, but it'll happen soon.

It will come! And even a little prematurity can affect those early milestones.

My boys started smiling somewhere between 6-8 weeks, but that was adjusted and my boys were way early--28 weekers. So we had to wait a very long time...but trust me it's worth it. You may just have to take into account a few extra weeks since they were a little early. It'll happen soon....

My twins were close to 8 weeks when they smiled and they were full term. Evan smiled at 7 weeks on the dot. Everyone is different.

I had a hard time determining when they had their first real smile. I want to say it was 3 months actual, but I swear they smiled in the NICU letting out gas! :rotflmbo:

It seemed like it took forever for our babies to smile--they were born at 36 weeks too. In reality, I think they did their first real smiles at about 12 weeks. It makes everything so worth it--you suddenly feel appreciated and not just like slave labor!

Royce smiled probably around 9 weeks, Alice didn't smile until she was 13 weeks or so.

My theory is that they start to smile just about the time that you've had enough and are getting ready to send them back. ;) At least that's how it felt to me! But that first true smile makes all the hard work and sleepless nights worthwhile.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm a little more relaxed after reading. Actually, I think Noah may have smiled at me this morning, only lasted a second but I swear I saw it.
