Is there any nutritional value in these? It seems like they would be good first food because they are so soft. Any thoughts?

Try to find no salt added veggies and sugar free (or reduced) fruits and yes they are great finger foods! :)

I wanted to give the boys some pears in their mesh feeders and all I had were in the "heavy syrup" so I just rinsed them with water before putting them in there...you could try that:)

ditto PPs - also try to look for fruits packed in their own juice or in water rather than syrup as that's a lot of extra sugar. or as a PP mentioned, you can rinse it off if that's all you can find.

I agree with everyone else, vegetables with no added salt or sugar and fruit packed in juice instead of syrup make great finger foods!

I read somewhere once that the best are fresh, then frozen, then canned. My boys really liked frozen mango when they were teething (I put them in the mesh feeders). I'm all over the canned fruits (packed in their own juices) especially when the fresh fruit looks awful at the grocery store. My two can devour a can of peaches in under 5 mins!

Same here. DH and I usually drain the syrup or juice from them and give them to the kids. They eat them up.

Same here...we love those little plastic cups they sell. My DS can eat the whole serving of peas, green beans, carrots, whatever I give him. We take them to my stepson's baseball games so that we have an alternative to concession stand food!

Thanks for all of your input. You all made me feel better about using canned foods. I am so unsure about all of this! I will definately look for low salt/sugar.
