we're going on a trip to visit my family at the end of the month. we'll be staying with my father, who has no access to baby gear. i'm trying to figure out what we'll do for feeding while we're there. i've seen these at target:

but with all of the travel expenses adding up i'm wondering if it's really necessary to add on another $20 baby gear item. plus the car is going to be so loaded down already that we'll probably scrape our way down the highway as it is.

i have fed them sitting on the floor but they're much more likely to get distracted that way and not focus on eating. does anyone have another suggestion? or should i just roll with it and let them eat sitting on the floor regardless of distractions?

I have never used those travel highchairs before. Do you have bumbo seats? Last summer when the girls and I went to the beach I brought along their bumbo seats and that's where I fed them in the condo. Or what about in a stroller?

I was going to suggest the same two things.

I haven't ever used one either but if you don't have another option for feeding (like Aimee said, Bumbo's maybe?), they look handy. I have a friend who always used something like that to feed her baby when they came over & it was great.

It looks like they would take up less space than a Bumbo. We travel to my parent's a lot, but we stay for a long time. My Mom ended up buying two booster seat/high chairs for the house. She figured she could use them for the boys and her other future grandchildren. We were just at IKEA and they have some great high chairs for cheap (if there is an IKEA near your family you could keep them there).

I was also going to suggest a Bumbo or stroller!

the stroller idea might work. we have a bumbo and i did consider it, but these guys refuse to stay seated in it. they're just too busy and they writhe their way out. also, i was thinking the cloth one i linked would at least fold down, which would make it easier to pack than a bumbo.

i'm intrigued by the ikea high chair. if we're going to spend $20 maybe that's the way to go. especially because i don't know what my dad's dining room chairs look like and i'm concerned the cloth ones won't work with whatever style he bought.

Where are you going to vacation at? Maybe someone on this board is local and let you borrow some things? I would if you were coming to the Tampa area.

We just went to CA (we live in WA) and stayed in a hotel. I just fed the boys in the stroller (a maclaren SBS), and other than a lack of a tray for finger foods, it was worked well.

I also used our DuoGlider as makeshift high chairs on a trip. It worked great! There's a tray for each, and I was bringing the stroller anyway, so I didn't have to bring an additional item.

I saw those at Target too and thought it was a neat idea. I am thinking though after the feedback here I will probably just use the stroller.

Eventually you'll probably want boosters to sit at the table. Maybe get 2 FP Healthy Boosters, they fold up nice and travel well. Highly recommend them!

Well, I'm over an hour or so away; if you were coming to the Detroit area I could totally hook you up! :D

I got 2 of these for my shower and this is what we use when we travel. They work great, and the boys are very comfortable in them.
