So in Germany (where we currently live), the State pays for a midwife to come and visit you in your home daily for the first two weeks or so after the birth of your child(ren) - really nice service, right? Well, when we first came home, we had read so many good hints on twinstuff already that after just a few days, we felt really settled in and confident (besides, every time we were unsure of something, I would just do a search here and find my answers quickly) - so we sent our midwife on her merry way. Well, today she came by to see how things were going and we sat in the boys' room. It was right around nap time for the boys and they got a bit cranky. So my husband said that he would quickly put them down and they settled in two minutes flat, right there in their cribs in front of our eyes - yay for the boys! She was so impressed she took some of my business cards to hand out to other twin moms :woohoo:. Just had to share, so proud!!

That's great. They need that service here too. Don't German moms also get the equivalnet of $13,000 dollars just for giving birth?

Well, there's no lump sum for giving birth, but we do get "Kindergeld" - childrens' money - of about 130 Euros/month per child (and yes, that's for each kid!) until the child turns 18 or finishes its first degree. The benefits here are amazing - I also could stay home with the kids for up to three years, get 70% of my salary and a guarantee to get my job back afterwards. Childcare ist (almost) free and for families with two working parents, that's from birth till school, up to 10 hours/day (I think). Pretty good deal. My husband and I decided to stay until we're done having kids and only then try and move back to the States...

Jeez, there any jobs in Germany? I'll hand in my passport tomorrow!

Congrats on the midwife visit, and it sounds like you're doing great!
