I am 25 weeks with twin boys and I have not had a whole lot of problems with my back so far, but three days ago my back starting hurting and has not stopped. I know all the pre term labor stuff says to watch for lower back pain, so I guess thats why it worries me. I have called my dr and hes really laid back...like he NEVER wants to see me except my scheduled appts. But anyways what i think it might be is the babies laying on a nerve?? It starts in my lower back and goes all the way up and around into my chest making it hard to breathe. And its a horrible horrible pain. Anyone have any ideas? I have also been swollen more the past few days. Abouta week ago I had only a trace of protient in my urine and I have high blood pressure but the medcine is keeping it under control. My pulse has been 110-120 also :( I worry a lot and my husbands in iraq so its just me!

First off....welcome to Twinstuff & congrats on your twin pregnancy!! :yahoo:

Secondly... So sorry about your back pain :( I would probably call my OB again & tell them that you are in pain & need to be seen. I had sciatica during my 1st & part of my 2nd trimesters & it was AWFUL pain that shot through my back, butt & leg! I ended up going to physical therapy 2x a week & it really helped.
I know that I also had pain that made it feel like it was hard to breathe towards the end of my pregnancy, and that came from rib pain. My ribs were expanding & I had little feet/arms poking around in there - that was pretty painful!!

So I would definitely give the Dr a call again & tell them that you would be more comfortable if they looked into your pains.
    Hang in there Momma!

I guess with twins I just expected my dr to be more proactive when I have a problem, he kinda blows everything off as "normal part of pregnancy" which it might be but im not going to feel better until its checked out. The pain in my back/chest area is just constant now...its worse when i try to go to bed at night but its pretty much constant all day(not always so severe tho) I love being pregnant and I love our babies so much but im so over being pregnant :) lol
    Thnaks!! :)

Are you able to choose a new doctor or are you stuck with him?

If you aren't comfortable I'd get another one if you can. Otherwise I'd call and tell the nurse/or receptionist that you need to schedule another appt sooner. You want to be seen for severe backpain. Don't call and ask for information or whatever. Just try to get another appt if it's hurting that bad.

With my insurance I can go to any doctor I want but this dr is said to be by far the best in Arkansas, hes the director of the maternal fetal medicine clinic at the university hospital here....I dnt think that hes bad i guess i just like to be checked and reassured that everything is ok.

 so sorry you are in pain! Sometimes docs treat so much as "normal pregnancy stuff" it's frustrating. I would definitely call and try to get in for the pain. Better to be safe than sorry!

Yeah, I've got the same thing here. It's so frustrating- you just want to know that you are not crazy, things are fine & you're keeping them intact. The first peri I saw was TOTALLY like that. I went in at 20 weeks, armed to the teeth with all my questions. Here's a sample of this guy:

Me: When should I expect to stop working?
Him: Oh, whenever you start to feel too tired all the time. I don't want to mess up your FMLA. (Side note: I shoulda stopped when I first became pregnant- during the first trimester it was all I could do to drive home every day! )
Me: I don't qualify for FMLA.
Him: Oh, yes you do, it's a federal program. (Side Note: I used to work in HR. I know I'm only 25, but I do know my... well, insert curse word there).
Me: No, I don't. I haven't worked at the current position for a year, I'm due in Sept. & don't think I can hold the babies in until mid-November.
    Him: Oh... well... (subject changed).

I ended up refusing to see this guy again. I want someone who is obsessed with keeping my boys in the belly for as long as possible... not someone who is concerned with my finances, relationships, anything else. I can be concerned with those things! I have gone to another peri, but haven't tested him out the way I did with the first guy- maybe my next appointment I ask all those questions again.

As to your back pain, I would want to be seen, too. Preterm labor is very scary looking. If your insurance allows, I might just show up at the hospital to be checked out... they aren't going to turn a twin pregnancy with a suspicion of preterm labor away! :bubble:

    Keep us posted!
