This morning, I finished running errands and when I came home, I felt like I had to go to the bathroom. When I sat down, my undies had a little faint spot blood spot in them, and then there was pink on the toilet tissue. Every time I went to the bathroom in the next hour, I wiped pink. I put on a pad to monitor what was going on and left a message at my OB/GYN office.

A nurse called back and said it's nothing to worry about. I'm still spotting, several hours later, when I go to the bathroom -- it's a darker color now, like a brownish red, but not bright red. Instead of doing all my "chores" today, I've just sat around and not done anything streneous hoping that inactivity will help.

How much should I worry? I slept poorly last night because my dog and my daughter both woke me up at different times, and my grandfather is currently in the hospital dying so there is stress in my life. I'm terrified that I'm miscarrying or something after all this -- these are IVF babies.

Should I be worried this is leading to something serious and I'm just curious if any of you have gone through this. When I search the Web I get alot about first trimester bleeding or late 2nd/3rd trimester bleeding, but nothing at my stage of 15 weeks.

    Help!

 I would definitely call your OB office again & express to them that you are concerned & would like them to check you out. In my opinion always better to be safe

I am sorry you are having some stressful times right now ~
Stay hydrated hydrated hydrated & be sure to get lots of rest lying on your side.

    Keep us posted!

Try not to freak out! I had same at about 14 wks and turned out to be cervix/placenta friction. Doc kept asking if I'd had sex recently. Did you by any chance(I hadn't). Easier said than done but try not to lose it! there are common reasons for this! Stay as positive as u can!

Hey there :) I too had spotting around that time, although mine had been on and off since about 6 weeks. I have even had some really bright red bleeding that really freaked me out at about 9 weeks and again just before 15 weeks. My last spotting incident was about 2 weeks ago so just before 16 weeks, about the same as you. Same type of thing as you...light pink when I wiped which tapered off over the course of the couple of days to brown and then disappeared.

Every nurse or OB I've talked to says that if there is no cramping, clots, or tissue accompanying this type of light bleeding then there is no need to be overly concerned. That said, of course keep track of it, let your OB know especially if it's your first incidence of this, but there is no need to be rushing into the ER or anything like that. I have also asked if the cramping would be obvious and all have said that yes you would KNOW if you were miscarrying. My spotting has come from (and likely will continue to happen because of) a slight placenta previa issue that I have with one of the babies. OB hopes that it will move off of the cervix, but until it does I will have random spotting on and off he said and that it was not something to worry about or even reduce activity because of at this point in my pregnancy. Maybe this is the same type of issue for you? I definitely notice that the more I do (ie. weekend of tons of walking/shopping) the more likely the spotting is to happen so I try to monitor that on my own even though it's apparently harmless. I also know that it's common for the cervix to have blood vessels that break and bleed...again sometimes from lots of activity, but not to worry about.

Hope that helps somewhat, and that maybe your OB will have a concrete answer for you soon. I know that before I knew it was previa I was always SOOOO worried even though I was told not to, but now that I know that there is a defined reason behind the spotting, it's easier to just relax about it.

Congrats on the IVF babies :)

I would definitly call your OB back and ask to be checked. You have worked so hard to get this far, and there is no reason to take chances. I had the same kind of issues all through my pregnancy. I had light spotting that lasted a day or two when I was about 12 weeks (my dr put me on bedrest for a few days ;) ). Then I started spotting again around 16 weeks, and that lasted on and off for a month or two (back on modified bedrest  ). The entire time, my OB did weekly u/s just to make sure everything was ok.

My pregnancy was also thanks to IVF, and I was not about to take any chances. I had waited too long for these babies! And I am happy to report that they are happy, healthy and 11 weeks old today!

 Take care of yourself and those babies, and if your OB won't take you seriously... find a new OB!

I've had spotting on and off as well similar to what you describe. My OB says I have an irritated cervix.Little blood vessels break when I do too much or when there is a lot of pressure on my cervix from bending and even going to the washroom. As long as there is no cramping or clots he wasn't worried. It is really scary when you see any blood. For peace of mind you should probably see your OB. Take is easy, try not to stress to much. I know its hard:)

I had spotting on Saturday. I am 21 weeks today and saw my OB today and he said not too worry. As long as you aren't bleeding and filling a pad he said it was normal. Like one of the previous posters said she spooted more when she did more activity. I noticed that I had done way more on the week-end than normal and I ended up spotting.

Thank you everyone for the reassurance...

I'm still spotting when I go to the bathroom, although now it's a dark brown color. I'm wearing a pad -- ugh, how I was so looking forward to avoiding that for several months -- and there's a hint of brown on it. Sorry for the TMI factor.

I've been in bed since 7 p.m., hoping to just relax tonight with my laptop and TV. I'll reevaluate in the morning and see how I feel and whether or not I insist on going in to see the doc.

I've read a zillion things online about spotting, so I'm feeling a little better about it. I was just at the doctor on Thursday and everything was fine, picked up a heartbeat on the Doppler (said one is enough at this point on that thing).

Also, she said was uterus was large, even for twins, at that point. I'm wondering if that's contributing to the bleeding. I definitely am getting bigger in front and starting to contemplate a move to maternity clothes even thought I can still button most of my pants.

I just hate laying around like this -- I'm praying I never get a bedrest diagnosis!

    Thanks again everyone!

Still spotting, but so far, seems to be less than yesterday and it's a pale brown color. I'm hoping its stopping. I have some tasks to do today, but I'm going to try not to overdo it.

Sounds like the bleeding is tapering off...great news! Brown blood is always better than red/pink, your body is just getting rid of whatever's left from the original spotting :)

Spotting is gone! I haven't seen any tinge of anything since midday, so I'm pleased. I'm hoping it stays away!

Thank you for all your support!
