What To Do With Her Hair?

My DD's hair is growing out like a mullet---long in the back, short on the sides, and long in the front. I'm not ready to cut her hair yet, but I definitely want to get that front hair out of her eyes. I've tried small barrettes, but she just pulls them out of her hair. I tried headbands & she screams and cries (DS, on the other hand, loves to wear her pink headbands but that's another story....). Someone had told me that there are special barrettes for little girls that can't be pulled out of their hair, but she didn't know what they were called. Has anyone heard of this? Or does anyone have any ideas? I think I'm going to have to resort to cutting bangs for her if I can't figure out something else soon!

I buy those teeny tiny pony elastics. They stretch like crazy so they are easy to put in, but not so easy for my DD to pull out. I pull her bangs up (and I do mean straight up - her hair is stick straight  ) on the top of her head so she can see. Poor baby looks like a Troll doll.

I pull Hailey's hair up to the top of her head and tie a rubber band around it. Sometimes I do two piggies, but usually it is just one pony right on the top of her head. I think she looks cute :). If her hair isn't up she looks like a shaggy dog with her hair hanging over her eyes. I use the tiny rubber bands from Target, found in the baby section.

I was having the same problem and cut my dd's hair today.....not sure how I feel about it.....couldn't do the barrettes or the pony tails, she'd take them out and eat them.
Her bangs were in her face all the time....
just cut it, dh hates it!
    :(
It will grow out, so at least for a few months we have a hair free face I guess...

Thanks for the responses! I'm going to look into those pony tail holders. If they don't work, I'll just have to cut her some bangs.

I have always called this the waterfall. I did it with DD when she was little. I never wanted to cut bangs in her hair but it was a trial growing it out. Well she had other thought because she cut bangs a couple of months ago.

Please don't use barettes! My friends daughter had to have one surgically removed from her stomach (she was just about a year). It was so ragged that it would have ripped up her intestines had her body tried to pass it.

Oh no! What kind of barette? My DD barely has any hair to speak of so I haven't had to worry about it yet, but my friend made me a really cute barette/bow that's wrapped in a type of felt so it would stay in her hair. She was able to swallow a whole barette? That is so terrible! I'm so glad they were able to remove it! Poor little girl!

We did get DD's hair trimmed up around 13/14 months just so it was at a good starting point for growing out, but I also don't want to start bangs. Like everyone else, I have resorted to the pony sticking up on top of her head. She looks like a little martian baby, but I think it's cute. She generally won't pull that out, but she pulls barrettes right out (and like PP said, I worry about her putting them in her mouth when I'm not looking). I say go with the pony. Martian troll babies unite!

I would take her to a salon or haircutting place and have it shaped up.

we've done barrettes (but they scare me for the very reason (can't remember who said it now) posted-- especially since they help each other pull them off)...we've recently resorted to the pony tails, and "shrek tails" as I call them- I think it makes them look like little shrek babies...anyhow-- am including a pic of our girlies w/ their shrek tails as it's a new phenomenon in our house-- I've discovered it keeps their hair cleaner when eating, too-- added bonus :) shrek tails

    Lynymama your girls are adorable!

I'm facing the same problem here... DD's bangs are getting too long. I might have to look for those tiny rubber bands, our Target is pretty bad though so not sure they will carry them.

I added images to my gallery of Hailey and her hair. One has the pony on top of her head, which is what we usually do, another has her in pigtails, and another with her brother, you can see all her hair hanging in her face. Hopefully the link works...

My DD's hair was totally a mullet, once we had it trimmed it grew so fast. We are slowly cutting the back and just barely trimming (1/8 inch) the shorter parts. The little rubber bands from Target have worked well for us.

My girls have a lot of hair as well and I too am not ready to cut. Their bangs hang right across their eyes. I put an elastic band in their hair the moment they wake up. I have a bag of the no ouchie clear bands. They're very thin and stretchy. They stay in all day, even through their afternoon nap. They've been a realy lifesaver. I hope this helps.

We're struggling with this too. Karina has a horrible cowlick, so bangs really aren't an option for her. I don't really want to cut Annelise's hair either. Sometimes they leave a barrette in their hair, but if it is freshly washed, the clip won't stay in. I tried pig tails this morning and I think they look ridiculous. When you put in a pony tail or pig tails, do you just leave the rest of the hair that won't fit in?

    Annelise in Pig Tails

    Karina in Pig Tails

Karina won't sit still for me to even put them in properly. She shakes her head back and forth which makes it nearly impossible. Ah...toddlers!

aww adorable pony and piggy tail pics! I have one that will keep my headbands in but one that can rip out anything so i use the ouchless elastics too and take them out before naptimes and bedtime--im terrified of them swallowing it:( one little pebbles do usually because they have hardly any hair yet - :p
