So the triplets aren't due until December, but a friend recommended I start buying boxes (or truckloads!) of diapers now, to ease the financial strain once Mom is on bedrest, and the babies arrive...

I don't know what it's like in the US - but in Canada a box of Huggies is about $12 more than Pampers. Just wondering what brand's people use/find most reliable, etc.

    Any suggestions?

In my area, they are about the same price! That's weird! Anyway, I used Pampers when they were really tiny, I liked the fit better. But as they got older I used Huggies more (or sometimes whatever was cheapest!). But for newborns, I definitely preferred the Pampers!

We were using pampers, but we were tired of paying the high prices. We started trying out different brands. First, we tried the store brands and they didn't hold up well during blow outs. We just started using Luvs and we LOVE them! They are soooo much cheaper and are comparable to pampers. HTH and GL!

Unfortunately (I don't know what it's like in Ontario, but around here) we are pretty limited on the brands we can get here. I do remember trying the Kirkland brand at Costco once they were older & they were pretty good. You have to watch, though, because at some sizes, they are actually more expensive than the Huggies and in other sizes they are cheaper.

I love Pampers Swaddlers so far. Huggies are okay but after using the swaddlers they don't seem near as soft - they do absorb as well as the Swaddlers though. I also tried the Sam's Club brand and think it is crap - we have a lot of blowouts. My mom just sent me some Luvs (made by Pampers I believe, just more economical version)and I was skeptical because they seem much thinner, but so far, great job for the most part!!! We have used them a week and they are substantially cheaper. I would like to be able to always purchase Pampers but will definitely be working the Luvs in to alleviate some cost.

I use Pampers and I love that they mold to my boys. The diapers hold up nicely and they seem to work just fine. I tried Huggies and they leaked in the beginning of the boys lives because of their skinny legs. Now they are chunking up a bit, they work just fine!

I really do not recommend you buying diapers before the babies arrive. The reason I say this is because if you choose Pampers and they leak or just do not work, then you are stuck. What DH and I did was find the best place to get diapers. Keep in mind that selection also comes into play. We found that BRU has the best selection and price. The wearhouse stores had the same price, but not the selecction. Once we found the store that carried a good selection and price we put money on gift cards. $100 every two weeks from the time I was 9 weeks pregnant till we delivered. I had over $1300 in gift cards for diapers. Plus, you will get diapers during your showers and that will help you determine what kind wil work for you.

That's great advice, thanks everyone! I really like that gift card idea - good thinking! :)

Now we use Walmart brand and Target brand diapers. They are about half the price of the national brands, and I don't think there is a big difference. We have used Pampers, Huggies, Kirkland, and store brands and they all leak poop at one time or another. We used Pampers Swaddlers when the babies were tiny. They were nice, but I wish we had used the Walmart brand newborn size. I didn't realize Walmart carries a newborn size in their store brand. We did have quite a few packages of diapers when the babies were born, mostly from showers and from coupons we had. I didn't think it was really necessary to stock up on a lot of diapers. We don't have a lot of storage space. DH was out at Target enough that it was no problem to pick up a pack of diapers.

I am not sure what stores you have in your area, when our little ones were first born, we loved the Pampers Swaddlers (Huggies & Pampers are probably the same price around here too). As they got older, we were able to use the store brand...we use either the Target brand or the Babies R Us brand. Good luck!

    Triplets?! :woah: Congratulations!! :drinks:

I second the idea of waiting until they are born. We got lots of Huggies (we registered for them) and decided we hated them because they leaked. But we were stuck using them until they ran out. Also, chances are really good that your babies will be small, so you won't know exactly what size to use. You may need preemie diapers, and I believe only Pampers makes them. We had to buy these for the boys for the first couple of months because they were so tiny.

We liked Pampers because they didn't leak as much as the Huggies. We tried Kirkland diapers (Costco) after they got big enough and really liked them. But it was a while until they fit; Kirkland's smallest size is 1-2.

    Good luck!

Congratulations on the triplets!! We started out using Pampers swaddlers when they were newborns since they fit so well. Once out of newborn size, we switched to Luvs since they were less expensive than Pampers or Huggies. We buy them at our local BJ's to get the most bang for our buck. So far they've worked out great for us. We have a hard time justifying paying for more expensive diapers since they are just something that gets used and tossed away rather quickly.

we used pampers swaddlers when they were itty bitty. we tried huggies and found them very leaky. we now use luvs, which are cheaper than both pampers and huggies. we do still use pampers for nighttime diapers, though.

we tried target brand but the tabs rip off very easily and we ended up ruining enough diapers that way that the cost savings didn't seem worth it.

We used Pampers in the very beginning....they fit the tiny babies so well and were the only brand I could find in preemie size which I used probably the first 3 weeks. My guys weren't preemies they went to term but they just fit so well. Since they have gotten older I've gone through all the brands.....Huggies (didn't like in the beginning), Luvs, Babies R Us brand, Kirkland, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. My favs now are either Luvs or Kirkland from Costco (those two mainly for price.) I actually prefer the Costco/Kirkland brand they and a touch stretchy and just seem to hold well....and are nice and cheap. I guess I am the minority I stocked up on three brands in the beginning my guys were born in the dead of winter and I don't think I left the house for 2 weeks....and when I did it was only for their two week checkup. I stocked up the house to the gills so I wouldn't have to take them out in the weather. It worked ok for us. If money were no object I'd still be using Pampers....they are still my fav.

  14. We tried a bunch of different brand, LUVS are AWESOME especially at night. To save money we use cheap Target Brand diapers during the day ( still a good diaper, I didn't like the walmart brand) and LUVS at night since they sleep through the night. HUggies are good, but expensive so save yourself to stress especially when they are little store brand will work b/c they don't soak the diapers as much, as when they are bigger!

I agree. I actually was fortunate to have a "diaper raffle" at my shower, so I was blessed with boxes and boxes of diapers. One problem we ran into with these is the sizes. You never really know how long they will be in a certain size, so another reason to do gift cards instead of actually buying the diapers. If you are going to purchase the diapers ahead of time, look into the stores return policy first. I don't know if they have Walmart in Canada, but they have a "diapers for diapers" return policy. It doesn't matter where you bought it, as long as they carry them, they will exchange for any other size, brand, or quantity. Good luck!

I used Pampers when they were tiny. Then we switched to Costco brand. And ended up with Target brand finally, as they were cheaper.

I was just going to mention this. My dad, when he found out we were having twins, bought a package of diapers every time he went shopping. Needless to say, at my shower we had a tower of diapers. I was so grateful! However, we didn't need 20 packages of newborn diapers but I had no problems exchanging them at Walmart!

GL and congrats on the trips!

Congrats!! I'm in Burlington and we buy all our diapers at Costco. They sell the Huggies there. We also buy our formula there as well. Costco knows us now as we are there at least once or twice a week lol!

Congratulations on triplets! I see we are from the same area so perhaps I can give you some local tips on how I find the best deal on diapers. I stocked up before my babies were born, and I am very thankful I did since my babies come home from the hospital months before I did!!! I use a calculator to calculate individual diaper price to figure out if they are a good deal or not. Additionally, I look for sales, promotions, use coupons and points programs to help defray the cost. Shoppers Drug Mart usually has diapers on sale; this week Huggies were on sale for 16 cents a diaper for size 3(with coupon), and then I collect Shoppers Optimum points that accumulate quickly towards free items. I frequently find Huggies for sale at Fortinos for a great price, once I bought them for 12 cents a diaper for size 3, and you can collect PC points there too. I don't have much of a preference between Pampers and Huggies, but I do prefer those to no name brands and I always buy them for less per diaper than the no name brands due to the promotions I find. So, I would suggest buying diapers ahead of time, at least some small diapers, and then a lot of size 2's, and tonnes of size 3's. I find our consumption of diapers is exactly what we expect it to be after reading about it online. For coupons I signed up to huggies and pampers websites, use save.ca and look for in store coupons. I find Huggies coupons are much easier to come. I find Costco and Sam's Club does not save me any money when it came to diapers, even if I buy their brand. I hope everything goes well for you and I am certain you will find this website a very valuable resource.

With the boys I pampers Swaddlers and as soon as we were out of the sizes they mad swaddlers for we went to huggies. When they got a bit older just before potty training we switched them to white cloud and then to parent choice both walmart brands. With Tyler we use Huggies, papmers and luvs. We found some really great deal on Craigslist and still have not bought diapers from a store and hes 6 months old.

Ok here my experience with diapers:
with first DS we notice that Huggies diapers are leaking BUT only when he start overgrew them. so if they saying that they are good up to 12lb try to use them up to 10lb. and everything woudl be OK. but there is a good point it made the way that if child poop a lot it will not go up from it and dirt the clothes on the back.

Pampers - not leaking one and I love them ( swadlles) but it does has problem with pooping ... it can leak from the back.

and do like Kirkland brand as well but so far we are using new born size for twins and kirkland is not available on this size.

BTW if Huggies diapers leak - call the manufactory and tell them about it. they will send you a lot of coupons at least you can buy other much cheaper.

    Hi! Triplets? WOW! Congratulations!

When our twins were itty bitty, we used Pampers because they formed so well to their little bottoms. But now that they have grown a little (actual age 12 weeks, adjusted age 2 weeks and are now weighing 9 lbs each) we use LUVS and we love them!

Also, may I add a little advice? REST UP! Twins are a handful, I couldn't imagine triplets!

Again, Congratulations! Babies are truly a gift!

Congrats on the upcoming triplets hamiltondad!!!

BIG BIG BIG ditto on what Jenn posted. For my first ds, I had bought a few boxes of diapers on sale. Huggies leaked one way, luvs leaked up the back, and the cheapie brands just didn't fit his butt right. I gave some diapers away and threw away the others. We ended up with pampers fitting his behind the best.

My dd comes, I start out with pampers, the swaddlers worked great, but as she was a chunkier baby, the didn't fit her waist right. I switched to huggies, tried the baby dry (which are cheaper), but found the supremes fit her the best.

Twins come, I've tried 2 different walmart brands, pampers, huggies supremes and as of right now the huggies baby dry fit the twins just fine. Pampers swaddlers no longer has as much elastic as they did with my first 2 kids and so didn't fit the twins little waists good (leaky leaky leaky).

So you really will have to just try to see what fits the best. I really recommend the gift card idea the best, plus it's much easier to store gift cards than it is to store boxes of diapers! :D
