my baby has some gas issues. he gets fussy and pumps his legs when i'm trying to burp him. he also spits up a lot but when spitting up, doesnt seem to be in discomfort. he wakes up squirming and crying and then when you lay him on his side and rub his back, it goes away.

to get a little extra sleep, lol and to keep him from waking all the time, would anyone suggest gripe water or mylicon? or something of the sort?

I've had success with both, but didn't start giving it to my girls until they were 2 months old.

I hadn't heard of gripe water before this site and still am not really sure what it is! We tried mylicon with my girls and it seemed to make them sick. The only think that worked for us was switching to the AR formula.

Mylicon!! Gripe water did nothing IMO. Also switching to sensitive formula solved everything.

We put Mylicon drops in every bottle to dissolve the bubbles and help with gas. We tried the gripe water for reflux and I dont think it did a thing.

Sounds like it might be reflux and/or gas. Mine did the same thing at that age, and it developed into pretty bad acid reflux. They were on Similac Sensitive RS (RS stands for added rice starch) and Zantac. Things got worse a few weeks ago, and we are now on Prevacid along with the Zantac and Similac Alimentum formula. I would try Mylicon drops first. If that doesn't work, maybe try a different formula. GL

I had luck with gripe water, specifically the pedi recommended Baby's Bliss, which has all-natural ingredients. I had no luck with mylicon drops. Combating the gas was very trial and error...oh yeah, and costly. :) Good luck.

We put Mylicon in every bottle and that really helped cut down on the gas. Target makes it's own version of Mylicon that is much cheaper then the original stuff and works just as well. We used gripe water for DS and that helped him out but it did nothing for DD who had worse gas issues.

My DD had the worst gas problems until she started sitting up last month. We did mylicon or the generic version and that did help. We also learned to lie her on her back and "run" her legs and she would pass gas like crazy and would smile instantly. I also sometimes just place her belly down on my lap and bounce her or rock her. That movement on her tummy made her feel so much better and she usually went to sleep. Warm baths are also great for gassy little ones. We tried all of this when the gas drops just didn't do enough. I hope your little one feels better!

I had no luck with the gripe water. I used Mylicon with just about every bottle. Are they on meds for the reflux?

they arent on any meds. the doc asked me how much spit up is alot and one of the babies soemtimes spits SO MUCH up and other times, not so much.
the gas is a lot though. very fussy when they're gassy and also difficult to burp.

We used both and I think they worked the same in our situation. They were full of gas and their BMs were not the sweet smelling BMs that everyone says a newborn has. I was supplementing with formula at that age for weight gain. We went through three different formulas with the assistance of our ped. After finally switching to soy and changing my diet bc I bf they no longer have the gas issues. We found out they have a lactose intolerance.

Mylicon worked best for us. We use the Target version.

We use mylicon, then we switched to little tummy (same exact ingredient but cheaper)
