Am I a bad Mom if I put BBQ sauce and guacamole on everything?

I've found that my boys love BBQ sauce, and today they ate half of my Mexican food, especially guacamole. So I'm just gonna put that one everything. Does that make me a bad MOM?

Not at all! If that's how they'll eat, then go for it!

I always thought our condiment of choice would be ketchup. :) I can remember putting that on everything as a kid.

Sounds like they have good taste!

Did you eat a lot of BBQ and Guacamole while bfing/pumping?

My thoughts are, if they are eating it - keep it up!

I think I did. Maybe they already have the taste for it.

I've given them BBQ baked chicken breast the past two days, and they totally devoured it. I turned around after like two minutes and they ate it all. Then I soaked their fries in it. :) And here's the kicker--I even gave them puffs and cheerios, which they covered in BBQ sauce :bad:

hey... sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. as for guacamole, its really healthy... at least the way we make it (avocado, garlic, onion powder & lemon/lime juice...) I'd probably go a little lighter on the salt for the babies... I haven't given them full guac... I just lazy and just cube up the avocado... they can eat 1/2 an avocado in no time!

I use those ingredients plus chopped cilantro and jalapeno, so my guacamole is pretty spicy. That's what surprised me. I had black beans and hamburger with jalapenos, salsa, and onion (and some taco mix, which probably is too salty), and they liked sour cream, guacamole, and the beans/meat mixed together. I tried to add a little salsa, but the tomatoes were not a hit. My Dh is Nigerian, and my SIL told me kids in Nigeria grow up eating hot spicy food, so I said hey I'll give it a try.

that's great about the spicy! I haven't done much yet... though I do love spicy... and ate it through pregnancy and breastfeeding... yes, the jalapenos would make it nice & spicy!! when I started tomatoes I just cut them up, surprised me, but they liked them. I figured if they would tolerate raw tomatoes then all tomato products would be good to go... I need to start seeing they'll like salsa & guac! my husband would love to share those with them!

Be careful with the spicy stuff. My guys love it going down, but not so much when it turns to heartburn, or when it comes out the other end. Yuck.

My boys love spicy Indian food (we're not Indian, just love the cuisine!). I think it's great to get them exposed to it at this age.

Guacamole is very healthy - the fats in avocado are incredibly healthy for them, so I say go for it!!

Bad mom?! Heck no!!! In fact, you can be MY mom ANY DAY!!!

My kids love spicy food. They were exposed to it at a young age and love it now. My dad sent me THIS article when the kids were babies. I thought it was interesting.

My two love anything with a bit of spice.

And like PP said, avocado is good for them!

Now if only I could get R to eat something OTHER than tomatoes sometime!!

No! Guac is health food at our house.

ETA: Our pedi okayed spice, and the babies have had jalapenos (did not love), Indian food (LOVED), spicy Mexican, etc. with no problems!

Oh, heck no. In this house, every sort of vegetable goes down with some ranch dressing. And BBQ works great, too.

My kids have been eating a lot of spice from the beginning -- I can't stand bland food, so can't imagine giving it to them.

BBQ on cheerios, though? That's just gross! :bad:

That article is intersting. It backs up exactly what my sister in law said. It was interesting what they said about rice cereal and diabetes--I'm not a fan of that stuff. Mainly because of the constipation issue, but I didn't think about diabetes. I gave rice for like two days, and quickly moved on to veges.

But that article is giving me the courage to try some other things, like citrus, which I've been avoiding because I feared a diaper rash.

I wanted to ask beemer if the problem with spicy on the other end was diaper rash or just extra stinky poop?

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about honey mustard. :)

I say no go with what they will eat. I love guac! One of the major food groups in our house. I haven't given it to the boys yet but will soon. I have been trying to find stuff to give to Beckett aka Mr Picky, found out yesterday that he loves pineapple. I ran out before he had enough. It was canned because I have been buying all kinds of fruit in the can to see what they like and fresh also but hadn't bought a real pineapple for them yet. Next grocery trip I will be.

Definitely not a bad mom if it gets them to eat food. Guacamole is healthy and yummy, and I don't see a lot of harm in BBQ sauce. My girlfriend has the pickiest kid I've ever seen. He will only eat food if he can dip it in Ranch dressing. It doesn't seem to have affected him yet, and he's 6.

Nope! If you are a bad mom-I'm a horrible mom! LOL! For almost everything they get some type of sauce-BBQ, ketchup, dressing, syrup :shok: , etc. One of my boys LOVE LOVES LOVES to dip his food. He takes after his father. I am almost at the point of adding cheese to veggies to get them to eat that. I do think my boys MIGHT like guacamole. I'll have to try that.

Side story...Anthony is the one who LOVES to dip his food. Well-dh gets them breakfast some mornings. Lately he'll make bkfst and then they'll stand at the table in the living room and eat it. Today he did waffles and he cuts them up into little sticks. Then he gets two ramekins and puts a little bit of syrup in it. Well Anthony starts off dipping the waffles into it. Then he just licks it off the waffle. He got smarter after awhile...he just picked up the ramekin to DRINK the syrup. I'm in trouble-I know!
