So after having chest pains in the beginning I went to the ER and they sent me home saying I have GERDS. Which I do believe now. I initially was told to take a Zantac before bed every night. Then it started getting worse so they told me one in the morning, one at night. Well now that's not helping! All day long I can feel the stomach acid sitting at the top of my throat just burning! I have tried taking some tums too, but it's not helping! Laying down is worse!! Any suggestions!?

I have the prescription for Zantac. Is pepcid stronger? I have an appointment tomorrow so I'm going to mention it and see if there's a different prescription medicine that might work better

Zantac never worked for me either, but Prilosec did. You might want to try different things and you don't need to get an Rx for pepcid of prilosec. Good luck!

I can't wait to mention it to my doctor because it's killing me. I almost feel like I'm going to choke on this stuff! I'll probably get a prescription for whatever else I can get (even if it's just Prilosec or Pepcid) because it's completely free through military. I can no longer take my migraine medicine while pregnant so I have an on going prescription for acetaminophen which I need daily! So thankfully for these prescriptions I'm saving some money, even if it's only a few bucks each time!

The OB nurse told me to try either Zantac or Pepcid. She said take it for 3 days and if it doesn't help, switch. I tried Pepcid (it is over the counter) because everyone told me Zantac did nothing for them. I take one in the morning and one at dinner time (when I remember, which is getting less often lately) and it really helps cut down the stomach acid. I was waking up at night with stomach acid in my throat and the pepcid made a huge difference. If you are a costco member, there is a costco brand and it works really well. Good luck.

My OB said to take Pepsid-AC in the morning and before bed. When that didn't help, he added Prilosec in the morning. He says if that doesn't do the trick, he will refer me to a gastroenterologist. I'm still trying to decide whether it's helped enough or I should go see the specialist...

Mine told me to try pepcid/prilosec - if that didn't work, then he would give me a script for Nexium. You might want to try to talk to your doc about that.

Nexium is exactly what I got a prescription for today. I don't just have heartburn, in fact most of the time I don't. I have the actual stomach acid sitting in throat ready to just come up. I'll start taking the Nexium tonight and hopefully it works!

I too experience terrible acid even on the prescription that the doctor gave me for protonix because nothing else was working. I coupled that with Mylanta and that seems to ease the pain. Some nights I have to take the Mylanta twice but it seems to work.

Well I've taken my new RX of Nexium the past 2 days and it seems to be completely better! Let's see how long it lasts!

Just in case, Iwanted to give u something that worked for me during my last pregnancy. My MIL actually gave me that advice: drinking a cup of warm milk with a spoon of honey. Worked great for me. Unfortunately, I developped type 2 diabetes 2 years ago, so this remedy is out of question for me this time around...
