Hi everyone! I am 29w 2d with twin boys, and I have been having issues with contractions for awhile. When I was 23 weeks, I was diagnosed with "irritability" and placed on modified bed rest. Then at 27 weeks, I ended up at triage 3 times with contractions coming 2-3 minutes apart. I received three shots of Terbutaline, and then was prescribed Procardia. However, the Procardia doesn't seem to be helping. I started off at 30 mg total, and this has been gradually increased so that now I'm taking 60 mg in the morning and 60 mg in the evening. The thing is, everyday I still have regular, painless contractions every 5-6 minutes apart. I'm not dilated, but I have to wonder -- how long can this continue without it actually causing preterm labor? Does anyone have a similar story?

Wish I could help..sorry! Have you spoken to your doctor, I would question if it puts any stress on the babies?
When I was pregnant with my daughter(she is now 2) i went in for contractions around 30 weeks and when monitored her heartrate would slow down while having a contraction...so I def think its something you should show concern to your doctor about!
    Good luck!!!

i'm just about 33 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with uterine irritability right around the same time as you. around 28 weeks they started to pick up actual contractions, painful ones, and i got 4 shots of terb in a 3 week time frame...did not help and sent my heart rate sky high so now i'm on procardia 20mg every 4 hours. i am also 1cm dialated, 1cm funneled and 40% effaced so they have to stop the irritability and contractions because it is changing my cervix.

when was your last ultrasound or cervical exam that they could check for any of this?

i can tell you that while on procardia i still have contractions they just are far fewer and far less painful. i think i had 2 last night and so far today none. remember, it could be the babies moving too. those movements, at this stage, can feel like contractions.

but definetly talk to your doc about it. mine said i could go weeks like this and not change as long as everything is controlled and i stay on pretty strick bedrest at home.

    good luck!
