Plain & Simple, can you or have you ever tasted or drank your own breastmilk? I dont think I could do that!
I especially could never taste formula, the smell alone is plenty enough for me :bad:

i tasted my own breast milk once - i was overcome with curiosity. it mostly just tasted like really really sweet cow's milk. :unknw: it doesn't seem that weird to me.

I tasted some of my freezer stash that had been in there for a while to check for freezer burn before giving it to the boys, just tastes like sweet milk. I also tasted some of the formula we supplement with (smells gross but doesn't taste that bad). I wouldn't feed my kids anything I am unwilling to try. Also, I think it is much more weird that we drink milk not even meant for our species, I would never take my babies out to the local farm and hook them up to a mama cow

I've tasted it, just a drop or so to see what it tasted like.

This thread reminds me of a Friends episode where Ross FREAKS out about Phoebe and Joey tasting breastmilk from a bottle from his ex wife for his son. Pretty dang funny!

I'd have to be pretty hungry. LOL! Actually I think I have done the finger test because I wanted to know vaguely what it tasted like.

However, in the case I mentioned in the other thread, where security people were making people taste it to prove it wasn't poison, I don't know how I would react. I don't see why I just can't feed it to the baby to show it's not poison.

Oh yes I've tried my own breastmilk. I have more of a problem with people who drink their own pee, lol. Anyways, my DH absolutely loves to get a little taste when we are in the bedroom.

Yes, I've tasted mine. More to test it. I already knew what it tasted like because we tube-fed my younger sister while she was learning to nurse and tried some of my mom's  I was 11 years old so I still sort of remembered that it tasted like sweet, watery milk. I have also tasted all the various formulas I've given my daughter :bad:

I actually have a funny story about tasting formula. I watch another little girl my babies age and she drinks formula while her mom's at work and then nurses at night and on the weekends. So I am on a committee for a volunteer organization and ended up having to take her (Camdyn) to this meeting with me. She got hungry partway through so I mixed her up some formula. She left about 3 oz in her bottle. Another mom had a baby as well, but she had forgotten her baby's bottle. I quickly finished the water in my glass, dumped Camdyn's formula into it (you can see where this is going can't you!), and washed the bottle out for the other mom to use. Sure enough, I get engrossed in conversation, pick up my water glass and took a big old swig of that nasty formula :bad: At least it wasn't Abi's alimentum - that stuff is the worst!!!

As far as tasting BM goes, my DH thinks it's the grossest thing in the world. I'm sure he has inadvertently gotten tastes, much to his dismay, but he thinks I'm perverse or something for testing it. Even thinking there's nothing wrong with tasting it, I would still have a problem with someone making me taste it to prove it's not poison. Something about that doesn't sit right with me. Are they making formula moms taste the formula?

I've tasted mine, out of curiosity. It's very sweet. No big deal.

They may be traveling with powdered formula and water. AFAIK, water in sealed bottles is ok (I think!).

A real terrorist probably wouldn't scruple to poison a baby. OTOH, they probably wouldn't care about poisoning themselves either.

Yeah, speaking of poison! Ivy had to have Nutramigen, and it was disgusting. One time we tried Alimentum instead (got a free sample), and it was even worse! She wouldn't even drink it.

 That was my first thought too!

I've never tasted it. Just never really had a desire to.

I just had to taste it out of curiosity; I licked the drops off of my hand after I tested a bottle for temperature. I did have to steel myself at first to make myself do it, which is strange if you think about it. We drink another animal's milk, but not our own? Though if you look at it another way, it's sort of like cannibalism to drink your own milk. ;) Anyway, sometimes it tasted really sweet, but sometime is was....chalky? Soapy? Not really sure how to describe it.

I have to say that when I was mixing it with rice cereal for the boys, it tasted a heck of a lot better than when I used formula! Rice cereal + breastmilk = rice pudding!

Wow. Nope. Can't say I have. Not that it's a bad thing...just haven't had an interest.

LOL - my DH tasted it out of curiousity. He described it as incredibly sweet, like drinking the juice of a honeydew or melon! :)

I never have; never tasted formula either. I have heard it tastes like skim cereal milk. You know, the stuff left in your bowl after eating sweetened cereal.

I'd never *drink* it! But I've certainly tested a small squirt of it on my wrist/finger. I think it's totally normal to be curious about the taste of what your babies are eating. I find it so silly that moms are freaked out by a small sample taste of breastmilk, but are completely fine with chugging a glass of milk from a cow?!? ;)

I've never drank my milk, but have tasted it. I think it tastes like a cross between rice and soy milk. I'm lactose intolerant, so I've had both before.

The most disrurbing story I have is when my sister was watching my 1st son after I went back to work, I would leave bottles of EBM for him to drink while I was gone. My sister caught HER DH using it in his coffee for creamer!!! He totally know it was MY BM!!! That was pretty gross!

This reminds me of a magazine article I read about a breastfeeding mum whos dad got sick with cancer. They read up about the healing benefits of bm, and she suggested she pump some for him each day. He thought it was a great idea and now has a cup of bm on his cereal each day. Don't konw if this helped him or not but she was saying in the article she would do anything to help her dad get better.

Im reading this book now called " Milk, money & madness the polics and history of breastfeeding" anyway, in one part of the book they tell the tale of a prisnor who was locked up and sentenced to starve to death. He was however allowed visitors. His daughter woudl come visit him and let him nurse through the jail bars. Her milk is what kept him alive, and the generosity of the whole situation is what convinced the sentence-er (not sure if thats a word or how to spell it) to release the man once he learned of what was going on -
