My girls are starting Grade One this year and its really affecting me, I'm going through toddler photo's and getting really upset and can't believe they are at this point.

They have just done two years of Kindergarten and I was fine, and now this full time school is really affecting me, am I normal lol.

My girls are going into first grade as well.
    I can so relate.

To me it seems like 1st grade is so normal...while preschool and kindergarten were so much more "special". I know it sounds weird. lol

    Of course you're normal!

It's a big step to have them in school all day. Mine started all-day school last year in kindergarten. I wish you could have seen me at their preschool graduation. I blubbered like a baby. Seriously. They showed a video wrap-up of the year with this sappy song about how fast time passes, and I sobbed out loud. I was a mess. It didn't help to know they are my last babies.

I was blubbering last year when they graduated Jk especially when they asked what each kids wanted to be when they grew up, jorja said a singer and Jessica said a mom set me off all over again lol

I think that it affects us because this is something that changes our roles as moms drastically. I know we've been settled in this routine of art classes, zoos, museums, playing in the park and the yard. And I was the person who made sure we all had fun and learned a little something. Next year, I'm going to be the school mom. Volunteering in classrooms, making sure homework gets done and every body wakes up in time for the bus. It's a major shift in the "mom role".

I think part of the reason I have baby fever right now is a little bit of denial that my "babies" are so grown up and I'm going to be the "school mom" instead of the "preschool-age mom".

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one out here! I was so excited when they started Kingergarten (here, it's all day), but their going to 1st grade, especially my daughter, is another story!

Andrew has an ESE aide with him because he has Aspergers Syndrome and "ants in the pants" (aka ADHD) and Mrs. B will be with him again next year! YEAH! She is like the aunt I wish he had!

Laura has had this awesome teacher and she sent an e-mail the other day that made me cry! It was all about how she wanted to be all alone with the kids on the last day because it was hard for them to say goodbye. She is so very nurturing. She has made Laura love school. That's my girl!

My being emotional isn't helped by my starting a new job next week an hour from here! It will not allow me to take them in the morning occassionally. Oh well, it's a job (Praise God!), and at least initially is only 3 days a week.

My, how everything is changing!

A close friend of mine who is the mother of a 20 year old told me there are two types of mom's. Mom's before first grad and mom's after first grade.

Mine is starting tomorrow too. Maybe tomorrow we need a 1st Grade Mommies club where we can come and support each other. Good luck to you girls. It's going to be a hard adjustment.

Hope all the first grade students had a great day!!

Amanda, if it makes you feel any better, I am always teary eyed at the first day of a new school year and the last day of the school year. Still. And my boys are now freshmen in high school and a freshman in college!! It's just hard to see them grow and mature (even though that's our whole goal) and have a life apart from you.
